When you hear the name Frigidaire, you probably think of kitchen appliances. But Frigidaire is also a well-known name in the HVAC industry. Their brand includes window units, ductless split systems, and central HVAC systems.
Frigidaire-branded HVAC equipment is produced by Nortek Global HVAC. They are a Missouri-based company that’s been manufacturing heating and cooling products for almost 100 years. Over the years, Nortek has accomplished many “firsts.”
- Producing the first central AC system for trailers
- The first split-system AC with a 25.5 SEER rating
- The first gas/electric packaged system with 95% AFUE.
Frigidaire offers a full line of central HVAC systems. Their air conditioners and heat pumps are divided into two series—the economical E-Series and the premium F-Series. Frigidaire’s split heat pumps range from 15 SEER to 19 SEER. Their split air conditioners range from 14 SEER up to 20 SEER. All of their split heat pumps carry the Energy Star certification.
In gas furnaces, Frigidaire offers both standard and high-efficiency options. The standard furnaces have an 80% AFUE rating, while the high-efficiency furnaces range from 92-96% AFUE. Single-stage and two-stage gas valves are available in both the standard and high-efficiency furnaces, as are fixed speed and variable speed blowers.
For homeowners who prefer packaged units, Frigidaire has a good range of options available. In gas/electric packaged units, you can choose high efficiency for either heating or cooling, with a 20 SEER, 81% AFUE model and a 14 SEER, 95% AFUE model available.
They also offer a dual-fuel packaged unit, which combines a heat pump with a gas furnace as back-up heat for when temperatures drop very low. This can give you efficiency as well as peace of mind.
While packaged units are generally less efficient than split systems, they do have Energy Star certified models of both gas/electric and packaged air conditioning.
Frigidaire’s indoor air quality products include UV light air purifiers, electronic air cleaners, and whole-home humidifiers.
