PristineAir Has Solutions for Indoor Air Pollution

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the average American spends 90% of his or her time indoors. Because we spend so much time inside, indoor air pollution can have serious negative effects on our comfort and health. And the EPA has found that indoor air is often significantly more polluted than outdoor air—up to 100 times as much!

Thankfully, today we have products available that can reduce the air pollution inside of our homes. PristineAir offers a suite of products that can be used individually or in combination to make your home’s air cleaner, healthier, and more pleasant to breathe.

To understand how PristineAir’s indoor air quality products work, you need to understand the types of contaminants most often found inside of homes. There are three major kinds, and PristineAir has solutions aimed at reducing each of them.

Particles and Allergens

The first kind of common indoor air pollution is particles and allergens. These include contaminants such as pet dander, skin flakes, dust mite feces, and dust. Particles and allergens can cause negative health effects like coughing, sneezing, congestion, and an increase in asthma symptoms.

And these particles aren’t just bad for your health. Dust and other particles can build up inside of your HVAC unit. In fact, a study by Texas A&M found that the airflow through your system can be reduced by 30% if there’s just 1/8th of an inch of dust on the blower wheel.

Additionally, the EPA found that even an extremely thin coating of dust or dirt on the coils can reduce your HVAC system’s efficiency by about 20%. That means you’d be paying 20% more every month for heating and cooling!

Some people try to reduce particles and allergens by purchasing high-MERV intake air filters, but those filters don’t actually help much—and they can significantly reduce the airflow through your HVAC system, which can lead to a shortened lifespan for your overworked HVAC unit.

PristineAir has a better solution. Their Polarized-Media EAC uses a safe, low current of electricity to create a polarized electric field. As particles pass through this field, they pick up a charge, which then causes them to stick to the filter. Ever rubbed a balloon on your pants leg, and then stuck the balloon to the wall? It’s the same principle at work!

The Polarized-Media EAC captures tiny particles, including 97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. But the air resistance from the EAC is much lower than that created by those high-MERV disposable filters. That means cleaner air without overworking your HVAC system.

Germs and Infectious Agents

The second kind of common indoor air pollution is germs and infectious agents. This covers a range of microorganisms, including viruses, bacteria, mold, and pollen. The negative health effects of these contaminants are well-known.

They include illnesses like the flu, as well as sinusitis, pneumonia, ear and throat infections, and allergy symptoms. Mold spores can also trigger or worsen asthma symptoms in those who have asthma.

Plus, some of these agents can “infect” your HVAC system, turning it into a breeding ground for mold and bacteria. They particularly like to grow on your heat pump or air conditioner’s coils. That not only increases your risk for health issues, but also leads to decreased efficiency and foul odors—what we call “dirty sock syndrome.”

PristineAir has a solution for reducing these indoor pollutants, too. Have you ever heard the saying “sunlight is the best disinfectant”? Well, it isn’t just a figure of speech!

Scientists have known since the 1800s that sunlight could kill bacteria. What we know now is that the ultraviolet rays in sunshine disrupt the DNA of microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, and mold.

PristineAir’s Germicidal UVC Lamp harnesses this power to kill off the microorganisms in your home’s air, as it passes through the HVAC unit, as well as on the surfaces inside of your HVAC unit. That means cleaner air and cleaner coils.

The Germicidal UVC Lamp uses a high-output UVC lamp that’s 3.3 times stronger than standard UVC lamps, giving it even more germ-destroying power. It has low maintenance requirements and is engineered to last, keeping your home’s air and your HVAC system cleaner and healthier for years to come.

Chemical Gases and Odors

The third and final common type of indoor air pollution is chemical gases and odors. The chemical gases found inside of homes include formaldehyde, benzene, and VOCs (volatile organic compounds), as well as other gases that come from building materials, cleaning solvents, and pesticides. These gases can cause health issues like nausea, headache, dizziness, and lung problems.

In fact, in a Harvard University study, all of the homes tested had toxic chemicals like these in their air, which the study warned could cause allergies and asthma along with other health problems.

PristineAir’s Oxidizing UVC/UVV System combines the germ-killing power of the Germicidal UVC Lamp with a patented UVV lamp chamber. Inside of this chamber, a photochemical reaction oxidizes and controls chemical gases and odors in your home’s air. That can make your home’s air healthier as well as more pleasant to breathe.

So this system reduces both the second and third kinds of indoor air pollution. If you combine the Oxidizing UVC/UVV System with a PristineAir Polarized-Media EAC, you can actually control all three types of common indoor air pollution.

With PristineAir indoor air quality solutions, every time your HVAC runs, the air circulating through it will come out cleaner and fresher. And keeping it clean will help your system run more efficiently and last longer. That’s a win for your health–and your wallet too!
