In 1893, an Iowa man named Fred L. Maytag went into business with three other men. Their first product? A self-feeding threshing machine. It was reliable and safer than the old hand-fed threshers that required farm workers to put their hands dangerously close to the whirling machine.

To help ensure quality and reliability, Maytag’s air conditioners are checked 144 times before they ever leave the factory. They offer split system air conditioners from 14-20 SEER and gas/electric packaged systems with air conditioners rated up to 20 SEER as well.
Their split heat pumps go up to 19 SEER and 10 HSPF in efficiency while their packaged heat pumps can achieve up to 16 SEER and 8.2 HSPF. Their iHybrid packaged units combine a heat pump with a gas furnace to provide comfort and efficiency in all kinds of weather.
In addition to their packaged systems, Maytag also offers gas furnaces as individual units. These include high-efficiency two-stage, variable speed furnaces that can achieve efficiency ratings up to 96% AFUE.
